It’s been an amazing journey so far. I landed in Barcelona on March 15th eyes wide ready for my first European Storytelling Tour. I wasn’t sure what to expect other than visiting friends met in New York City over the last three years, consuming saliva-inducing delicious meals and taking in the beautiful sites apparently on every street corner.

First, I met up with Judit on a cold rainy evening in Corts; a delightful tiny village nestled about 20 minutes north of Girona. Sitting in her kitchen circa the 1400’s, I could feel past history seep into my body as we sipped hot tea and enjoyed the traditional cauliflower/broccoli dinner her grandmother prepared for us.

Judit allowed me to accompany her into her brother’s bakery located just across the drive on their property. I watched, mouth agape as her brother kneaded dough, then placed the newly pounded mound into the wood burning oven. I had the good fortune of tasting the bread fresh from the oven, slathered with sweet salted butter and homemade marmalade.
