Stories build bridges between us.
Stories, whether folktales or fairytales, personal or historical help us to understand each other, ourselves and the world around us. Our brains are hard wired to understand the world through stories.
Stories are also light in a world that can feel so dark.
Stories can serve as doorways to conversations about things we might not otherwise be able to talk about. There’s a reason we’ve been telling stories as long as we’ve had language.

Marie Jenney Howe, Fiery Founder of secret club Heterodoxy:
The first rule of Heterodoxy was, “We don’t speak about Heterodoxy!” Be inspired by a powerful story of standing up, standing together and speaking out. Kristin portrays Suffragist and Feminist Marie Jenney Howe, the fiery founder of Heterodoxy a secret club for women of diverse opinions and catalyst for the American Feminist movement as well as a keystone in the Suffrage movement.
This 30-minute historical portrayal brings important unknown history to life. The 30-minute post-performance discussion focuses on women supporting women, social justice action and how/why this club is relevant today.
Debuted at the Women’s Storytelling Festival the only Storytelling Festival in the US entirely comprised of female identified Story Artists, Heterodoxy reminds us of the power of standing together even with diverse beliefs to support each other to do the necessary work to preserve Democracy and human rights.
Founded in 1912 in Greenwich Village, New York City, Heterodoxy was a wellspring of social justice work with impacts we still feel decades later. This group of auspicious women stood up for children’s rights, voting rights, worker’s rights, and women’s rights.
We stand upon the foundation created by Marie Jenney Howe and Heterodoxy. It is important to know their story so that we may continue to be energized to support each other to speak out, stand up together. 60 minutes includes Q &A
